Book 59 of Year 2017 – “Your perfect right” by Robert Alberti and Michael L. Emmons

Official Title – Your Perfect Right, 10th Edition: Assertiveness and Equality in Your Life and Relationships

Genre – Non fiction

Book Length – 319 pages

Reading Time – 6 hours

Style/ Plot – How can I express how particularly marvellous this book is? There is no need for me to re-write what this book is about as Robert laid it our eloquently.

“This book is a step-by-step guide to: overcome interpersonal anxiety, meet your needs in relationships, create relationships of greater equality, set limits on life and relationships, learn and apply skills of assertiveness and become more effective in expressing needs.”

It did all the above and much more. It particularly honed in on assertiveness and how the readers can develop tactics effectively express themselves.

He distinguishes between aggression and assertion. The main difference being that assertion reflects genuine concern for everybody’s rights.

Favourite Quote – “Assertiveness is person and situation specific. The approach you use when expressing your love is different from that for disciplining your children, asking your boss of a raise, and telling a teacher you want more attention to your child’s unique needs.

Recommendation – It also paints a very healthy picture of what assertiveness is and gives examples of situations that call for assertiveness.

Rating – 4/5
