Best laid plans of men and mice

I was so excited when I woke up this morning. Yes, excited on a rainy Monday morning that week 43 has begun and I have boxing classes in the afternoon.

My gym, lunch and work bags were packed the night before. My itinerary for the week was already memorised and I had it on paper and on my phone…one can’t be too careful you know.

I even got to the station 15 minutes before my train and then it hit me – I left my gym bag at home! How did that happen to me? Why has the universe conspired against my quest for the uber beach body?

I was truly in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to go back home to get the silly gym bag (which was ideal but meant I would miss my train); or getting to work in time and calling up an hour before my boxing class to say I could not make it (which was more practical but meant I would have double classes tomorrow).

I made the most difficult decision not to go back and restrained myself from spinning conspiracy theories.

The whole scenario reminded me of the Robert Burns poem:
“The best laid schemes of Mice and Men oft go awry;
and leave us nothing but grief and pain, for promised joy”.

How apt. I always encourage people to plan and what not but don’t despair if nothing goes according to plan.

It is easy to blame circumstances, people or the universe in general when things don’t work out like we planned but a plan is just a plan and if all fails – plan again.

Reflect on the tangible things that you could have done to make the earlier plan work and plan again with the lessons learned in mind.

In other news, I’m reading a new book this week so expect a review soon.

Have a fabulous day people!

  1. Oh dear, just saw your IG post about the new outlook of your blog. Never knew you had one, my bad.
    It’s lovely babe, very neat and well organized.

    I guess you were late to the first outing of your day (on said Monday).. It’s crazy how silly stuff like this happens on very well planned days.
